Government committed to Abidjan-Lagos Highway prooject – Roads Minister

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to the Abidjan-Lagos Corridor Highway Development Project.

He made this assurance during the launch of a campaign in Accra on May 14. The campaign focuses on engaging communities affected by the project.

When completed, the highway will stretch 1,028 kilometers. It will link five West African nations: Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. Major economic hubs like Abidjan, Accra, Lomé, Cotonou, and Lagos will be connected.

According to the Minister, this initiative is vital for regional economic integration. He stated that it will facilitate free movement of goods and services. This will enhance socio-economic development in the sub-region.

Ghana's portion of the corridor is about 520 kilometers long. This represents more than half of the entire route. The section will be built as a greenfield project.

It will pass through key towns such as Apimanim, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Saltpond, Winneba, Accra, Tema, Kasseh, Akatsi, and Akanu.

The stakeholder engagement campaign aims to educate around 32 impacted communities. The Minister emphasized that community participation is crucial for success. He said they are committed to keeping affected communities informed and involved in development processes.
