Government disburses GH¢2.7bn to GETFund, expenditure for Free SHS

The Government has paid GH¢ 2,710,227,947 to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). This payment covers January, February, March, and April of this year.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced this in Parliament on Tuesday. He is the Minority of Finance.

He stated that funding for the Free Senior High School Programme is now fully covered by GETFund. This change resolves previous challenges, including feeding issues.

Dr. Forson also mentioned that GH¢2,033,469,607 has been disbursed to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). All transfers due to NHIF for January to March 2025 have been paid.

These funds will help settle arrears owed to healthcare providers. They will also support the Free Primary Healthcare and Ghana Medical Care Trust programme, known as ‘Mahama Care.’

Dr. Forson emphasized that these payments show a commitment to meet statutory obligations in priority sectors. He noted that under President Mahama and the NDC leadership, transfers to statutory funds are now made promptly and fully.

The Minister assured that the government will use taxpayer money wisely. He stated that reckless spending is over and they will only spend when funds are available.
