Government is committed to revamping the Student Loan Trust Fund – CEO

Dr. Hajia Saajida Shiraz is the CEO of the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF). She reaffirmed the government's commitment to revitalizing the Fund. This commitment aligns with the government's manifesto.

On May 26, Dr. Shiraz spoke on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show. She stated, “The government is committed and has shown its commitment.”

Before her appointment, she noted many challenges faced by the SLTF. She said, “Before I came into the Student Loan Trust Fund three years ago, it wasn’t doing too well.”

She explained that for three years, they approved loans without funding them. This situation harmed the reputation of the SLTF.

Since taking office, Dr. Shiraz has focused on loan disbursement. She mentioned, “We have been intentional about loan disbursement.”

She provided an update on their progress. “We have cleared loans for almost all first-semester students,” she said. Some students are still applying in real time.

Dr. Shiraz also discussed second-semester disbursements being prepared. She emphasized strong support from government officials for their work.

“We have backing from government ministers,” she stated confidently. They assured her that necessary funding will be made available.

In conclusion, Dr. Shiraz expressed confidence in the government's dedication to improving SLTF operations and tertiary education finance.

The Student Loan Trust Fund helps Ghanaian students pursue tertiary education. It receives funding from government allocations and loan repayments.
