Government needs to intentionally support indigenous businesses — Professor Bokpin

In a recent statement, Professor Godfred Bokpin emphasized the urgent need for the Ghanaian government to actively support local businesses. He argued that fostering indigenous entrepreneurship is crucial for the country’s economic growth and sustainability. According to Bokpin, many native enterprises struggle due to a lack of resources, which stifles their potential and hampers job creation.

He called on policymakers to implement deliberate strategies aimed at enhancing the capacity of local firms, such as providing financial assistance and reducing bureaucratic hurdles. By prioritizing these efforts, he believes the government could stimulate innovation and competitiveness among homegrown businesses. Bokpin also highlighted that empowering local entrepreneurs would not only boost the economy but also contribute to national development by creating jobs and fostering self-reliance.

His insights serve as a clarion call for a shift in focus toward nurturing domestic industries, which he views as vital for Ghana's long-term prosperity in an increasingly globalized market. The professor’s remarks underscore the importance of intentional governmental support in cultivating a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem within the country.
