Government plans to scrap COVID-19 levy in budget – Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced plans to remove the COVID-19 levy. This decision will be part of the upcoming budget.

Mr. Ablakwa explained that this move fulfills a key campaign promise. The government aims to eliminate four controversial taxes from the previous administration.

While speaking to Ghanaians in Benin, he said, “Only one more tax remains.” His statement received enthusiastic applause and cheers from the audience.

He noted that three of the four taxes have already been repealed. These include the betting tax, Electronic Levy (E-Levy), and emissions tax. The president approved the relevant bills on April 2nd.

Mr. Ablakwa also updated the Ghanaian diaspora on political and economic developments. He assured them of the current administration’s commitment to transparency and reform.

He encouraged everyone to stay hopeful about future changes. The Mahama government is determined to keep its promises.

Additionally, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized youth development as a priority. He revealed that funds have been set aside to support young people. Their empowerment is central to the administration’s broader agenda for economic and social progress.
