Government revokes Akonta Mining lease for trespassing Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve

The Government has revoked the lease of Akonta Mining Company Limited.

This decision is effective immediately.

Akonta Mining lacks a lease to mine in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.

As a result, their mining activities there are illegal and criminal.

Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, spoke to the press in Accra yesterday.

He stated that President John Dramani authorized the Minerals Commission to revoke Akonta's lease.

He emphasized that the Mahama government will hold the company accountable.
