The government is set to amend the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) Act in a bid to enhance local manufacturing, according to Goosie Tanoh, the Minister for Trade and Industry. This revision aims to create a more favorable environment for domestic producers by ensuring they receive priority in public contracts. Tanoh emphasized that these changes are essential for promoting economic growth and job creation within the country.
The proposed amendments will facilitate easier access for local manufacturers to government contracts, thereby fostering their competitiveness against foreign firms. Tanoh highlighted the significant role of local industries in achieving sustainable development and reducing reliance on imports.
Furthermore, he underscored the need for collaboration between various sectors, including public-private partnerships, to strengthen manufacturing capabilities. The government’s commitment reflects an understanding of the challenges faced by local businesses and aims to address them through legislative reforms. By prioritizing local content in procurement processes, officials hope to stimulate economic activity and support Ghana's broader industrialization agenda.
