Govt appeals for peaceful coexistence in refugee-hosting areas

The Interior Ministry has called for peaceful coexistence in Ghana. This is especially important for asylum seekers from Burkina Faso.

The appeal was made during the launch of the Border Project by World Vision Ghana. This initiative supports communities in the Upper East and Upper West regions. These areas are accommodating displaced persons.

Deputy Minister for the Interior, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, spoke at the event. He stated that the government has strengthened early warning security systems. This aims to protect the country’s borders and maintain national security.

"We are committed to ensuring that our border communities remain secure," he said. He emphasized upholding human rights and dignity for all, including asylum seekers.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, made a pledge. He aims to improve local education interventions in host communities.

"Many children face severe barriers," he noted. These barriers include inadequate infrastructure and lack of water facilities. Food insecurity and instability also disrupt learning and attendance.

Dr. Apaak confirmed that Ghana's Ministry of Education is ready to collaborate with World Vision. The goal is to ensure improved learning outcomes from this project.
