Govt declares June 6 public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Adha

The Ministry of Interior has announced a public holiday for Eid-ul-Adha.

This holiday will be observed on Friday, June 6, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement dated Thursday, May 29.

It was signed by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak.

The ministry urged everyone to observe this day as a holiday.

Eid-ul-Adha is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.

It is one of the most important events in the Islamic calendar.

The festival honors the faith of Prophet Ibrahim.

He was willing to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, to obey God.

Eid-ul-Adha coincides with Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Hajj is one of Islam's five pillars.

The festival occurs on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah.

This month is the last month in the Islamic calendar.

Eid-ul-Adha is often called the “Greater Eid.”

It includes special prayers and animal sacrifices.
