Govt disburses GH¢550m for NHIS claims – NHIA boss

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced a payment of GH¢550 million to health facilities. This funding will help pay claims more quickly.

The NHIA recently uncapped its funds. This change is expected to speed up claim payments in the future.

Dr. Victor Bampoe, the NHIA Chief Executive Officer, shared his optimism about this development. He mentioned that the President instructed the Finance Minister to release funds within 30 days. Regular fund releases will allow for timely payments to service providers.

Additionally, the NHIA plans to expand its free dialysis program. This initiative aims to provide better access to life-saving treatment for renal patients nationwide.

As part of this expansion, the NHIA will buy more dialysis machines and essential supplies for healthcare facilities. This effort aligns with the government's strategy to improve critical healthcare access.

Dr. Bampoe explained that more kidney patients will be included under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
