The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GH¢550 million to health facilities across the country to clear outstanding claims, following the recent uncapping of NHIA funds.
Chief Executive Officer of the NHIA, Dr. Victor Bampoe, confirmed the disbursement and noted that the move signals a renewed commitment to prompt payments under the scheme.
“The President has instructed the Finance Minister to release, within 30 days, all funds accrued to the National Health Insurance Scheme,” he stated. “We expect to receive funds more regularly, so we can, in turn, pay service providers promptly.”
In a related development, the NHIA has also announced plans to scale up its free dialysis programme. The initiative will see more renal patients gaining access to life-saving treatment, with the NHIA set to procure additional dialysis machines and essential consumables for hospitals nationwide.
Dr. Bampoe emphasized that the expansion aligns with the government’s broader strategy to improve access to critical healthcare services, particularly for patients suffering from kidney conditions.
The dual announcements mark a major step in the Authority’s efforts to strengthen the healthcare delivery system and restore confidence in the National Health Insurance Scheme.
