The Ministry for Energy and Green Transition has announced Ghana's energy needs. The country will require about $562 billion for its energy transition by 2070. This comes as Ghana prepares to start a nuclear power project, with construction set for 2027.
The Energy Ministry highlighted ongoing projects as signs of progress. These include solar mini-grids for island communities and the development of 33 new mini-grids. Dr. Robert Sogbadji, Deputy Director for Renewables, spoke at a stakeholder meeting in Accra on May 21.
He emphasized that Ghana is committed to its energy transition framework. Currently, over 89% of Ghanaians have access to electricity. The transition aims to involve all regions and District Chief Executives.
Dr. Sogbadji noted that awareness is crucial for successful implementation. He stated that various stakeholders must contribute financially to the transition. This includes the government, private sector, and development partners.
In summary, Ghana needs significant investment to achieve its energy goals by 2070.
