The government has announced the immediate suspension of all post-retirement contract appointments for retired public service employees across the country.
The directive, dated April 2, 2025, was issued by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama. It takes immediate effect and halts any ongoing or planned contract extensions for retired public servants.
“Post-retirement contract appointments for retired public service staff have been suspended with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The government emphasized that no further requests for such appointments will be considered, adding, “All requests for such appointments will no longer be processed.”
Authorities responsible for staffing and administrative decisions within the public sector have been urged to fully comply with the directive without exception.
“Kindly take note of this directive and ensure strict compliance,” the notice concluded.
The decision is expected to impact staffing dynamics across various government departments, as agencies adjust to the absence of contract extensions for experienced retirees.
