Govt targets 600 new enterprises by 2028 – Julius Debrah

The Government of Ghana is committed to strengthening the business sector. They aim to establish over 600 new enterprises by the end of President John Dramani Mahama’s term. This initiative is linked to the upcoming Kwahu Business Forum on April 19, 2025. The forum will connect financial institutions with the private sector for investment opportunities and policy support.

Chief of Staff Julius Debrah spoke to journalists on April 14. He highlighted the forum's potential to inject capital into the economy. It will also generate sustainable employment. New businesses will stimulate local economies, create jobs, and increase tax revenues. This contributes to national economic growth.

Debrah noted that each bank at the forum should support at least five viable projects this year. They plan to continue this support annually. This strategy aims to create over 600 enterprises by the end of President Mahama's four-year term. It aligns with his vision for a strong and inclusive business environment.

The Kwahu Business Forum serves as a platform for dialogue between financial institutions and private sector players. It aims to enhance Ghana’s business climate through collaboration. Stakeholders will discuss innovative financing models and strategies.

Debrah emphasized that funds will flow into the economy as businesses start up. Local economies will benefit when companies are established, leading to job creation. Employees earn money, pay taxes, and buy products from others, stimulating growth.

He expressed that President Mahama wants to be remembered for fostering business development during his tenure. The goal is not just starting businesses but also encouraging banks to provide necessary support.

Each participating bank is expected to select five bankable projects this year. Next year, they will invite those supported projects back for recognition at Kwahu. If this continues annually, it could lead to over 600 enterprises by the end of Mahama's term.
