The government is considering extending the Student Loan Scheme. This would include students in private tertiary institutions.
The announcement was made during a ceremony on April 29. New board members of the Student Loan Trust Fund were sworn in. The event also launched a digital loan application platform for students.
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu shared details about the proposal. It aims to support students in private universities facing economic hardships. Currently, these students are not eligible for loans like their public university peers.
Iddrisu stated, “Government is considering expanding the Student Loan Scheme.” He emphasized that this includes private tertiary institutions as well.
He added that many Ghanaians struggle due to limited admission to public universities. These individuals often attend private universities but still need financial help. The loans will be repayable by the students.
