Greatly alarmed – Nayiri breaks silence on Bawku unrest

The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Kingdom, His Majesty Nayiri Naa Bohaga Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has condemned recent violence in Bawku. He criticized certain youth groups and urged the government to act quickly.

In a media statement, the Nayiri expressed concern about rising lawlessness. This situation has caused distress among Mamprugu residents.

He highlighted unlawful acts by some Kusasi youth. These include assaults, violence against property, and threats to security personnel. Such actions have alarmed the peace-loving people of Mamprugu.

The traditional leader warned about threats to regional stability. He pointed out extremist elements near Bawku as a growing concern.

“National efforts to restore Bawku's status as a commerce hub are at risk,” he said. Terrorist activities in Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, and Bawku West Districts threaten overall stability in the Northern Corridor.

The Nayiri made a direct appeal for increased security in the area. He stressed the need for more resources for police and military personnel.

He called for addressing concerns raised by commanders on the ground. “Increase security personnel and logistics to maintain law and order,” he urged.

He noted that deploying enough personnel is costly but necessary. It is better than facing greater costs from insecurity.

Finally, he emphasized that security forces should operate without political interference. This will help them pursue known criminals disrupting peace effectively.
