On the night of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, gunmen attacked a local sub-chief's palace in Poayamire. This village is in the Binduri District. The assault resulted in one death and two injuries.
The victims were Naba Atamburi, the sub-chief, and two family members. All three were shot during the attack.
Emergency responders quickly took the injured to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Sadly, one victim died on the way to the hospital. This news deepened the shock and sorrow from the incident.
The other two victims are still in critical condition and receiving treatment.
The motive for the attack is unclear. However, many residents believe it may relate to ongoing violence in Bawku. Tensions have been rising due to several incidents recently.
One incident involved an alleged police shooting that killed a civilian. This instability has created widespread fear among locals.
Since October 2024, violence linked to the Bawku conflict has claimed at least 83 lives. The death toll continues to rise as tensions escalate.
The recent palace attack raises concerns about further escalation in the region. It threatens an already fragile peace.
Security forces have not yet issued an official statement on this latest attack. Investigations are currently underway.
Authorities aim to restore calm as the community deals with another act of violence related to this prolonged conflict.
