Hassan Tampuli, the Member of Parliament for Gushegu, has criticized EOCO. He called the detention of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, an abuse of state power.
Tampuli's comments came after Wontumi was released from EOCO custody on June 2. His legal team withdrew a motion challenging his GH¢50 million bail conditions.
In an interview on The Point of View with Bernard Avle, Tampuli expressed concerns about political targeting. He stated that this situation signals political vendetta against opposition parties.
Chairman Wontumi was first invited by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on May 27. He was arrested by EOCO the same day and granted bail the next day.
The bail required two justified sureties, which were confirmed by his lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi by May 30. However, his release was delayed due to a motion filed at the High Court.
This motion sought to review the GH¢50 million bail as excessive and restrictive. It was scheduled for hearing on June 3 but was withdrawn on June 2, allowing for Wontumi’s release.
