The government has reduced the Hajj pilgrimage fee from GH¢75,000 to GH¢62,000, fulfilling President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign promise to make the journey more affordable for Ghanaian Muslims.
Providing an update on February 5, Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda, who led a five-member task force, credited negotiations with Saudi authorities for the reduction.
The task force engaged service providers in Mecca and Madina to ease financial burdens on prospective pilgrims.
The new fare, equivalent to $4,130, aligns with Mahama’s commitment to improving Hajj accessibility.
The move has been welcomed by the Muslim community, as the government continues efforts to streamline the pilgrimage process.
