President John Dramani Mahama has clarified that the under-construction Hajj Village is not solely for Muslim pilgrims but will also function as a transit facility for passengers passing through Kotoka International Airport.
Amid concerns about the project’s necessity in the face of economic challenges, the President emphasized that it is designed to improve travel conditions for all passengers, not just those embarking on the pilgrimage to Mecca.
“The facility aligns with our broader goal of fairness in national policies, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of financial status, can fulfill their spiritual obligations,” Mahama stated.
He explained that the Ghana Airport Company, under the Reset Agenda, is developing the facility as a dual-purpose transit terminal—serving as a Hajj Village during the pilgrimage season and as a modern transit center for departing passengers afterward.
This clarification comes as critics question the project's timing and exclusivity, but the President insists it will enhance airport infrastructure and provide a more comfortable experience for travelers.
