The Civil Society Alliance has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action against illegal mining, citing its severe environmental impact.

At a press conference, Nana Amoasi VII, Executive Director of the Institute for Energy Security, urged the President to issue an immediate directive to stop all illegal mining operations.

He also recommended repealing the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulation 2022 (L.I. 2462) and strengthening enforcement of existing mining laws.

Dr. Steve Manteaw, Chairman of the Alliance, stressed the need to combat corruption, particularly in mining license allocation, as part of broader efforts to address the crisis.

The group emphasized the urgency of restoring integrity and sustainability to Ghana’s mining sector.
