United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has named Hanna Serwaa Tetteh of Ghana as his Special Representative for Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
Tetteh succeeds Abdoulaye Bathily of Senegal and brings extensive experience from her roles in national and international diplomacy.
She previously served as the UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (2022-2024), Special Representative to the African Union (2018-2020), and Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs (2013-2017).
A lawyer by profession, Tetteh is fluent in English, Hungarian, and Fante.
Her appointment highlights the UN's commitment to stability and governance in Libya, utilizing her vast expertise in mediation and leadership.
