Ernest Owusu Bempah, Deputy Communications Officer of the NPP, has made a claim. He says many party supporters did not vote in the 2024 elections. They were disappointed with the choice of presidential candidate.
In an interview on Oyerepa TV, he stated that over 2.1 million NPP supporters stayed away from the polls. He views this as a silent protest against the party's flagbearership decision.
Bempah shared a personal story about a taxi driver who is an NPP member. The driver told him he voted for the NDC instead. He showed Bempah his party card and explained that he was unhappy with the candidate.
Bempah emphasized that this voter apathy is significant. He urged people to investigate why so many chose not to vote. “2.1 million decided not to go and vote,” he said, highlighting its seriousness.
He warned that the implications of this boycott should be taken seriously. More revelations may come once Prof. Mike Oquaye’s committee completes its report. “Let Prof Mike Oquaye's Committee bring out their report,” Bempah said, hinting at uncomfortable truths for the party ahead.
