Health Minister pledges three months of his salary to MahamaCares

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has pledged three months of his salary to MahamaCares.

President John Dramani Mahama has donated six months of his salary as well. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, announced this donation. He stated that the funds will go to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as Mahama Cares.

In a post on social media platform X, Felix Kwakye wrote about President Mahama's donation. He mentioned that the program is currently being launched at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

John Mahama launched the Ghana Medical Trust Fund to support people with chronic diseases. These include kidney failure, cancer, and heart conditions. The launch event took place at UGMC on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.

During the event, John Mahama encouraged corporate Ghana to provide support. He urged businesses in various sectors to contribute to the fund. He emphasized that donations would benefit their clients and employees.

Mahama called on corporations to consider donating part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds to this initiative. He believes it will greatly help those in need across the country.

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh stated that this initiative was long overdue. He said it aims to ensure fair healthcare access for those facing financial barriers.

Mintah Akandoh also mentioned that a draft bill for Mahama Care is ready for Parliament's review. He noted that changes have been made to unlock resources for this program.

He added that removing caps on national health insurance funding will support Mahama Care significantly.
