Health Minister proposes Ghana-Morocco collaboration to tackle rising brain drain

The Ministry of Health is seeking support from Morocco. They want to develop infrastructure for more Ghanaian health workers.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh says this initiative addresses the exodus of health professionals. Many are leaving for better opportunities abroad.

He believes partnering with Morocco could provide sustainable solutions. The proposal was discussed during a visit by Moroccan Health Minister Amine Tahraoui. He is in Ghana to explore cooperation in the health sector.

Mr. Akandoh is optimistic about the partnership's benefits. It could help reduce brain drain and improve skills for healthcare professionals in both countries.

He stated, “You help us, we also help you. We train people and set up infrastructure here. You tell us how many workers you need each year and the conditions.”

He added that returning workers can come back anytime. They will share ideas, experiences, and knowledge as partners.

The Moroccan Health Minister welcomed this collaboration. He noted it would strengthen diplomatic ties and improve healthcare delivery.

He said, “Morocco and Ghana have similar situations with our populations.”

He mentioned King Mohammed VI's commitment to universal health insurance in Morocco. The goal is to enhance cooperation with sister countries to share experiences.

“This partnership will strengthen friendship and cooperation between our nations,” he remarked.
