Parliament has summoned Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh to brief the House within a week on the outbreak of cholera and cerebrospinal meningitis.

This follows a request from Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who raised concerns over rising cases.

He reported 412 cholera cases in Effutu, with three deaths, and 14 fatalities from meningitis in the Upper West Region.

First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor issued the directive for the minister’s appearance.

Afenyo-Markin also urged the Health Ministry to deploy additional staff to the Winneba Health Facility, stressing that overwhelmed health centers need urgent government intervention to manage the crisis and prevent further loss of lives.
