Health Minister to donate three months of his salary to Ghana Medical Trust Fund

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, appreciates public support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares). He noted unexpected donations from individuals, including a pensioner.

President John Dramani Mahama announced he will donate half of his salary. This donation aims to improve healthcare access for patients with chronic illnesses.

On Asempa FM's Ekosiisen program on April 29, Mr. Akandoh shared a touching story. He was surprised by voluntary donations to the initiative. A pensioner named Prof Ayittey donated $1,000 to support the cause.

Mr. Akandoh highlighted this response as evidence of public goodwill. The fund supports treatment for chronic diseases like cancer and diabetes.

He also announced his personal commitment to the fund. “I will donate three months’ salary,” he stated.

Other ministers are joining in as well. Ministers like Ofosu Agyare and Naa Momo Lartey pledged one month’s salary each in support.
