The Ministry of Health has clarified its position on Anne Sansa Daly. She was recently removed from the Board of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). This clarification comes after President John Dramani Mahama revoked her appointment on May 23.
The official letter to the Minister of Health did not specify reasons for her dismissal. However, sources suggest it was due to public criticism over her claims of being a medical doctor. Reports indicate she does not hold a valid license to practice in Ghana.
Tony Goodman, the Ministry's spokesperson, spoke about this issue in an interview with Channel One Newsroom. He stated that professional misconduct issues are handled by regulatory authorities, not the Ministry itself. “I can’t say that the Ministry of Health has independently conducted any investigation,” he said.
Goodman explained that investigations are done through relevant agencies. If an issue involves a specific health facility, the appropriate regulatory body will conduct inquiries.
Following Daly’s removal, President Mahama nominated Prof. Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke for the NHIA Board position. He is a seasoned and licensed medical professional. The Ministry of Health has been instructed to facilitate his swearing-in process.
