Health workers across Ghana have made a promise to Dr. Beatrice Wiafe-Addai. She is the Chief Executive of Peace and Love Hospital. They vowed not to sell the free medicines donated by the organization. Instead, they will provide these medicines to patients in need.
The donated medicines are valued at $2.3 million. Direct Relief and Teva Pharmaceuticals provided them. These medicines aim to help people with health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, and mental illnesses. They are especially important for poor and remote areas lacking basic supplies.
Many rural health centers in Ghana face challenges due to insufficient medicines and equipment. This situation makes it difficult for them to provide proper care. Many patients also struggle with the high costs of treatment.
Some health centers that received these free medicines include Jirapa, Bunkprugu Yunyo, Bimbila, Kumasi Metro, and Korase CHPS Compound.
Mavis Osei-Akoto from Kumasi Metro Health expressed gratitude towards Peace and Love Hospital and its partners. She stated, “We will not sell the medicines. Thank you and may God bless you.”
Yaw Fosu from Korase CHPS Compound also thanked the donors. He confirmed that the medicines would be given out for free to assist patients who cannot afford them.
Dr. Wiafe-Addai noted that this is just the first batch of supplies. She assured everyone that more donations are on the way.
She emphasized that these donated drugs must never be sold under any circumstances. “These medicines must be given to patients without any charge,” she stressed.
