The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reported recent power outages. They are due to heavy rainfall, stormy winds, and system upgrades.
William Boateng is ECG’s General Manager for Public Relations. He spoke on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program. He urged consumers to be patient during this time.
Boateng explained that bad weather and high demand have caused issues. Urban areas like Accra have seen transformer damage and cable faults. This has led to system overloads as well.
Some outages go unreported because residents think ECG knows about them. After the festivities, many transformers were damaged, and there were multiple cable faults. Fixing these problems can be costly.
Mr. Boateng mentioned that ECG has resolved issues in Kumasi. They are currently working on problems in Obuasi and parts of Accra.
He also said the company is upgrading to a fibre optic system in Accra. This upgrade will help meet rising demand but is slow due to congestion and infrastructure challenges.
He encouraged customers to report faults quickly. He assured the public that ECG is dedicated to restoring stable power supply.
