Help elderly man stranded at Tema Community 7 to unite with family

An elderly man was found abandoned in front of a container shop. This incident occurred at Community 7 in Tema, within the Uhuru Electoral Area.

A local resident reported that a motorbike rider dropped the man off. This happened on Friday, March 28, 2025, near the Tema Joint Church.

An eyewitness noticed the man's frail condition and approached him. The man seemed confused and could not provide much information. He only mentioned an inactive phone number and his name: Richmond Kwame Baffour.

He claimed to have worked for Pioneer Food Cannery and as an Uber driver. The phone number he provided appeared as "Kwame Uber" on Truecaller.

Ms. Mante filed a police report immediately after discovering him. The police promised to help but have not taken action yet. Residents also contacted Social Welfare at Tema General Hospital for assistance.

However, they were told a police extract was needed first. Currently, well-wishers are feeding him and providing basic care. He cannot stand or walk and often soils himself due to this condition.

He has been sleeping outside under an extended roof since being abandoned. In the early days, he slept on the ground under a table. It has rained several times during the nights since then.

When visited by this reporter, he mentioned his wife Kate lives in Community 5. However, he could not remember how he got to Community 7 or who brought him there.

Residents are urged to help identify Richmond Kwame Baffour's relatives for proper care. The Department of Social Welfare is aware of his situation and is taking steps to assist him.

Mr. Robert Mensah Gbley leads the Social Welfare Department in Tema. He confirmed there is currently no shelter for abandoned persons in the area. Efforts are underway to find space in a psychiatric facility for him.

He also called on the public to help trace the man's family members. Most facilities require a relative or guardian's presence for care support.
