Help us protect power cables – ECG appeals to Suame Artisans

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti West Region has made an important appeal. They are asking artisans at Suame Magazine to stay alert. They should report any scrap dealers selling ECG cables or equipment.

This request comes due to increasing thefts of ECG installations. These thefts disrupt power supply to homes, businesses, and essential services. On May 21, ECG officials met with members of the Ghana National Association of Garages and Artisans at Suame Magazine. They sought collaboration to combat vandalism and theft of ECG assets.

Officials noted that Suame Magazine is a major industrial area. It is also a known market for scrap materials. This makes it crucial for identifying and reporting illegal activities involving ECG infrastructure.

The artisans welcomed this initiative and promised their support. Additionally, ECG Ashanti West plans to partner with key stakeholders. This includes the Ghana Police Service to protect installations and ensure reliable power supply.

Ing. George Amoah, General Manager of ECG Ashanti West, highlighted the need for protection. He stated that stolen transformers, pylons, and cables disrupt electricity distribution. This affects businesses, homes, schools, hospitals, and other vital institutions.

He urged everyone not to buy or sell stolen ECG equipment. People should report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
