A Cape Coast High Court has issued an injunction against Prof. Johnson Nyarko-Boampong, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), preventing him from continuing his duties after his current term ends on July 31, 2024.

The injunction follows a lawsuit filed by John Mevemeo, a resident of Millennium City-Kasoa, who challenges the decision to renew Prof. Nyarko-Boampong’s tenure until July 31, 2026.

Mevemeo argues that the extension violates the 1992 Constitution and UCC statutes, as the Vice-Chancellor will exceed the statutory retirement age of 60.

The court will provide its reasons for the decision on September 5, 2024. UCC’s legal team plans to seek a stay of execution.
