High Court withdraws arrest warrant against Director of Passports

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has confirmed important news. The High Court has withdrawn an arrest warrant against Kwasi Asante. He is the Director of Passports.

This decision clears him of any involvement in a passport case. The case involved multiple Ghanaian passports issued to Mr. Dominic Williams.

On May 23, the Ministry released a statement about this matter. They clarified that the incident happened before Kwasi Asante took office on August 19, 2024.

“The matter has been fully resolved,” the statement said. It emphasized that the incident predates his tenure.

Mr. Dominic Williams received his first Ghanaian passport over 12 years ago. His most recent passport was issued on January 16, 2024—eight months before Asante's appointment.

The Ministry thanked the Judiciary for handling the case swiftly and fairly. They are committed to transparency and accountability in their operations.

To ensure integrity, they are strengthening internal systems at the Passport Office. “We continue to strengthen our processes,” they stated.

The initial arrest warrant raised public concern about passport fraud investigations. With the Director now cleared, the Ministry aims to restore public confidence in the Passport Office’s leadership and operations.
