Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 presidential candidate for the NPP, praised former President Akufo-Addo. He called his eight-year tenure one of Ghana's best.
Bawumia noted that many criticize Akufo-Addo’s government despite its contributions to development. He believes history will vindicate Akufo-Addo's legacy.
During his ‘Thank You Tour’ on April 27, Bawumia highlighted Akufo-Addo’s leadership. He stated future generations would appreciate his significant contributions to Ghana.
“History will be kind to President Akufo-Addo for his bold decisions,” he said. Bawumia acknowledged some initiatives faced criticism but emphasized their importance for long-term progress.
He pointed out key achievements like Free Senior High School education and digitalization of public services. “These are investments for the future of Ghana,” he added.
Bawumia urged Ghanaians to continue supporting the NPP. He assured them that the party is committed to delivering greater progress.
“We are grateful for your trust and pledge to work tirelessly,” he concluded.
During the tour, Bawumia also discussed reasons for the NPP's defeat in the 2024 election. He cited hardship, arrogance, e-levy issues, and debt restructuring as major factors.
“The studies show people complained about cost of living and hardship,” he explained. The party had suggested reshuffling ministerial portfolios but did not listen.
Bawumia lamented that they ignored advice against implementing the e-levy and debt restructuring program.
He mentioned promises made by the president regarding no haircuts during debt restructuring but noted this was not fulfilled.
Additionally, he pointed out failures in developing regions where they received majority votes, such as road projects in Western Region.
