The Ho Teaching Hospital in the Volta Region has made a request. They want the government to take over funding for the 13th-month salary policy. Currently, this policy is paid through the hospital’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
Dr. John Tampouri, the hospital's CEO, spoke during their annual review meeting in Ho. He highlighted ongoing challenges at the hospital. One major issue is the high attrition rate of healthcare workers. Many nurses and doctors are leaving for better opportunities abroad.
Dr. Tampouri explained that the 13th-month salary policy helps retain staff. However, it has become a financial burden on the hospital. He called for government intervention or renegotiation of this policy.
He noted that this salary benefit applies to doctors, pharmacists, and allied health workers. Government support would ease financial strain and boost staff motivation.
Additionally, Dr. Tampouri urged for an expansion of hospital facilities. The hospital was designed for 240 beds but now faces overwhelming demand. This situation puts immense pressure on resources.
He also requested modern infrastructure and medical supplies from the government to improve services. Despite these challenges, Dr. Tampouri assured the public of their commitment to quality healthcare.
The hospital aims to become a leading medical tourism destination in Africa.
