How did a whistleblower become the victim? - Abu Jinapor defends Ntim Fordjour over drug claim

Former Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor defended MP Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. This comes after threats of arrest over Fordjour's drug trafficking claims.

The Narcotic Control Commission warned that Fordjour must provide evidence. If he fails to do so, they may arrest him for unsubstantiated claims.

In an interview on Joy FM's Top Story, Abu Jinapor expressed surprise at this situation. He called it strange and against the principles of law and democracy.

He said, "I don't understand how an MP can be arrested for oversight duties." He believes any allegations should be investigated thoroughly first.

Abu Jinapor questioned why the MP is treated as a suspect. Instead, he should be seen as a whistleblower with valuable information.

He stated that in a rule-of-law country, whistleblowers deserve protection, not punishment. "How can a whistleblower become a victim or suspect?" he asked.

Fordjour holds the position of Ranking Member for Defence and Security in Parliament. It would be unusual for the law to treat him as an accused person.

He urged state investigative bodies to work with Fordjour to uncover the truth. Threats of arrest are not the right approach, he argued.

"We must remember that Ghana is a democratic state," he emphasized. The rule of law should apply to everyone, regardless of their political status.
