Human trafficking conviction: Bella sentenced, fugitive still on the run

The Achimota Circuit Court has urged Ghanaian security agencies to collaborate with Nigerian authorities. They aim to find a fugitive commercial sex worker linked to a human trafficking case.

This follows the sentencing of 22-year-old Nicky Isabella, also known as Bella. She received a five-year prison term for her involvement in the trafficking operation.

Bella was convicted of conspiracy and two counts of human trafficking. She lured two young Nigerian women into Ghana under false job promises. Instead, she forced them into prostitution.

The court considered Bella's plea for mercy and her status as a first-time offender. However, she was sentenced to five years for each charge, with sentences running concurrently.

The court's decision came after a thorough police investigation. Evidence showed that victims were manipulated and coerced into prostitution through threats and control tactics.

Despite her plea for leniency, Bella’s conviction aims to deter others from similar crimes. The prosecution, led by ASP Isaac Babayi, effectively presented the case against her.

Authorities are also trying to capture Nelly, an accomplice who is still at large.
