Survivors of human trafficking have been encouraged to speak out about their experiences to help combat the crime and protect vulnerable individuals.
The call was made by Ms. Josephine Aparo, Senior Lead of the Global Survival Network (GSN) at the International Justice Mission, Ghana, during a capacity-building workshop in Accra.
Speaking at the three-day event in Abokobi, Greater Accra, Ms. Aparo emphasized that survivors hold a unique and powerful role in the fight against human trafficking. She urged them to share their harrowing experiences as a means of educating the public, influencing policy, and inspiring action.
According to her, global efforts to eliminate human trafficking can only be successful with the active participation and voices of those who have endured it.
The workshop, which coincided with International Social Workers Day, brought together over 120 participants and focused on enhancing their skills in advocacy, case documentation, reporting, and community engagement.
Participants were trained on how to work effectively with religious and traditional leaders, government officials, and community groups to create a safer environment for children and vulnerable individuals.
Ms. Aparo commended the GSN for fostering a strong sense of community in Ghana and urged members to remain steadfast in their mission. She stressed the importance of collective efforts in protecting children and preventing exploitation, calling on participants to serve as torchbearers in their communities. “The spirit of the GSN in Ghana is truly special.
Let us come together to protect every child and ensure a future free from fear,” she stated.
