I'm no longer a member of the NPP - Dr Amoako Baah

Political Scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has left the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He criticized the party’s leadership for failing to connect with ordinary supporters.

In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse, he confirmed his departure. "I am not a member of the NPP. I’ll quit today and won’t join again," he stated.

His resignation follows a report from a 12-member committee led by Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye. This committee investigated the reasons behind the party’s electoral defeat.

Dr. Baah expressed frustration over the party's failure to understand voter sentiment. He believes they rely too much on political elites instead of grassroots supporters.

“The people you need to listen to are those who stayed away,” he said. “The party keeps making mistakes and refuses to learn. That’s why I’ve decided to walk away.”

He criticized the party’s slogan “Breaking the Eight.” He argued it is disconnected from reality, saying, “You were chanting 'breaking the eight' like it was a done deal."

Dr. Amoako Baah accused NPP leaders of arrogance and complacency. He noted they are blind to public anger and resistant to change.

“They didn’t change anything because they didn’t see a tsunami coming,” he explained. “They think big men can win elections, but how many are there?”
