I’ll fight Ibrahim Mahama’s suit -Bright Simons

Bright Simons, Vice President of IMANI Africa, will defend his statements against Ibrahim Mahama.

Mahama and his company, Engineers & Planners (E&P), have filed a defamation suit. They seek GHS10 million in damages from Simons.

The lawsuit was filed at the Accra High Court. It claims Simons published false statements that harmed their reputation.

The plaintiffs allege that Simons made defamatory claims on his website and social media. They say he suggested E&P is financially distressed due to a mining operation suspension.

They argue that Simons’ claims about creditors being “up in arms” are baseless. The suit also states that he implied Mahama is using family ties for unfair business advantages.

The plaintiffs believe these statements have damaged their reputations and creditworthiness. They claim the publications were malicious and aimed to harm their public image.

In response, Bright Simons tweeted about the lawsuit. He stated he would fight it after careful consideration.

Simons described the suit as a SLAPP, meant to deter public interest coverage. He noted that Mahama’s company could continue working with a state-owned mine now.

Simons shared details about the lawsuit in several tweets. He mentioned Mahama's financial struggles due to suspended operations at Damang Mine.

He emphasized that if services are suspended, there will be financial consequences. He also pointed out that creditors protest when payments are delayed.

Simons recalled asking Mahama for documents related to these issues but received no response.

He believes the lawsuit aims to silence scrutiny of Mahama's affairs, which are of public interest.

Simons stated they bear no malice towards Mahama but will continue their scrutiny of his dealings.

He concluded by expressing confidence in proving he published nothing defamatory about Mahama.
