Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has urged health practitioners at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to end their strike. This follows the dismissal of CEO Dr. Adam Atiku. He was dismissed over alleged negligence that led to a patient's death in the Accident and Emergency Ward.
On April 24, doctors at the hospital suspended emergency and outpatient services indefinitely. They cited “unwarranted attacks” from the Health Minister as their reason. This decision came after an emergency meeting of the Doctors’ Association of Tamale Teaching Hospital on April 23.
In response, the Health Minister promised to prioritize the interests of both the hospital and its staff. He aims for better functioning and sustainability of services for the community.
On April 24, he addressed the media about supporting doctors with new equipment. He said, “I am here to take care of your interests.” He appealed for them to call off the strike and work together on solutions.
He added that they could use internally generated funds to address some issues. The minister encouraged everyone to confront problems directly and collaboratively.
