The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is considering a defamation suit against MP Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus.
However, he prefers to focus on his work for President Mahama. He stated, “I’ve considered filing a defamation suit against A-Plus but I would rather spend my time doing the work President John Mahama has appointed me to do.”
At a press conference, Dr. Ayine urged A Plus to stop hiding behind social media. He wants him to reveal what he knows about the NSS ghost names scandal.
Dr. Ayine criticized A Plus for making baseless allegations against hardworking individuals. He expressed readiness to confront A Plus over claims of bribery and corruption.
During the briefing on April 30, 2025, he said A Plus threatened him in a post. He found this threat laughable because he has nothing to hide.
Dr. Ayine explained that A Plus accused him of corruption based on campaign contributions from a businessman named Dr. Sledge. He argued that if receiving donations is theft or corruption, then many MPs are guilty too.
He challenged A Plus to present any evidence of wrongdoing at a press conference or report it to the police.
Dr. Ayine also encouraged the media to question A Plus about the NSS ghost names scandal. He believes this will clarify why A Plus made his allegations.
He warned that in his hometown, they confront mudslinging directly and are not afraid of it.
Meanwhile, A Plus responded angrily to Dr. Ayine's statements. He accused the Attorney General of seeking GH¢500,000 for bribery related to Parliament’s Appointment Committee.
A Plus called Dr. Ayine an "old fool" and suggested he needs a mental reset. In a Facebook post, he wrote about Dr. Ayine's alleged request for money for bribery purposes.
This ongoing exchange highlights tensions between them regarding serious allegations and accountability in Ghanaian politics.
