I admire Wontumi, but due process must work – Dormaahene

The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has commented on the arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako. He is commonly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The chief admires Wontumi but insists that the rule of law must prevail. He spoke at a public event in the Bono Region. As a High Court judge, he emphasized the importance of due process in Wontumi’s case.

Wontumi remains in custody after failing to meet bail conditions set by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). His detention has led to protests from NPP supporters. They stormed EOCO headquarters on Thursday, demanding his immediate release.

Supporters described his GH₵50 million bail conditions as excessive. Wontumi has since been moved to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB). Supporters have gathered outside the NIB headquarters.

Security has been tightened at NIB ahead of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s expected visit later today.
