I am defending the judiciary, not violating the law – Godfred Dame

Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame is acting as legal counsel for suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. He filed a suit on May 21, challenging the constitutionality of her removal proceedings.

The current Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is named as the respondent in this case. The suspended Chief Justice seeks an injunction to stop a five-member committee from investigating her removal.

She also wants Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu to be restrained from participating in the inquiry due to concerns about their neutrality.

In an interview with Joy News, Mr. Dame addressed claims of conflict of interest. He stated that his actions are lawful and aim to protect judicial independence.

“It is time for good men to speak up for what is right,” he said.

Mr. Dame emphasized that he has always defended the judiciary since his appointment. His comments come amid national discussions about judicial roles and political influence over top judges.

The Supreme Court has not yet ruled on the injunction request.
