I am happy to be back – Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is back to work. She recently recovered from a period of ill health.

On Thursday, May 22, she spoke for the first time since her return. She expressed eagerness to contribute to Ghana’s development.

“I’m very happy to be back,” she said with a smile. “So much has happened, and we have more to do. I believe that together, we can achieve great things for our country.”

She thanked everyone who supported her during her illness. This included medical professionals, government leaders, family, friends, and the public.

“I want to thank God for His infinite mercies,” she said. “I’m also grateful to the medical staff for their care and guidance.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang gave special thanks to President John Dramani Mahama. She recalled how he quickly responded when she needed help.

“To my boss that day — you came and set everything in motion,” she said.

She also honored Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive of Engineers & Planners and Dzata Cement. He provided unwavering personal support during her recovery.

“Mr. Mahama did everything possible to ensure I had what I needed,” she noted. “He sat by me in the hospital — that was healing in itself.”

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025. She sought medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the next day.

Following medical advice, she took a three-week leave starting April 7, 2025. She traveled abroad for further treatment as a precautionary measure.

Today, she returned home to a warm welcome from President Mahama and his wife Lordina. Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson were also present at the airport along with other senior officials.
