'I am not a card-bearing member of any party' - GNFS PRO to Dr Amoakohene

Alex King Nartey Alex King Nartey

Alex King Nartey is the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). He stated that he does not belong to any political party. This response came after Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene suggested otherwise.

Nartey explained that his past comments against President John Mahama were not political. He described them as acts of statesmanship, not partisanship.

This situation arose from a recent fire at the Central Market in Adum, Kumasi. The fire destroyed several shops and caused significant property damage. Nartey criticized attempts to gain personal recognition at the expense of firefighters.

On March 22, 2025, Dr. Amoakohene shared an old Facebook post from April 1, 2015. The post featured Nartey's name and image and included wishes made on April Fools' Day. Among these wishes was a vote of no confidence in President Mahama.

Dr. Amoakohene responded harshly to this post. He accused Nartey of being a politician instead of a serviceman. “Bro talked about social media without knowing its power,” he wrote.

In response, Nartey apologized but clarified his position. He acknowledged making past comments against Mahama before joining GNFS. He said those comments reflected his concerns as a young citizen.

Nartey emphasized that he has since praised the President's actions publicly. He reiterated that he is not affiliated with any political party and challenged anyone to prove otherwise.

He expressed regret if his words offended Dr. Amoakohene but maintained that better communication could have been used. Lastly, he highlighted that firefighters deserve better support from the government for their work.
