Nigerian journalist Chief Dele Momodu recently shared a tough time in his career. He went from being Nigeria's highest-paid editor to selling bread for survival.
In an interview with Bola Ray on Starr Chat, he discussed losing his prestigious job. This sudden change forced him to start over unexpectedly.
Momodu said, “The biggest embarrassment is when people ask, ‘What will you do now?’ and you have no answer.” He described the shock of going from an editor to rock bottom.
After losing his job as Editor, he was offered a role as Managing Editor. He felt this was just a step toward redundancy.
He revealed that the decision was made while he was in the UK. “I returned to Nigeria on Sunday and resigned by Monday,” he said. They took away his official car and driver.
Momodu also talked about the politics in media power dynamics. “When you become too powerful, people will come for you,” he warned.
