President John Dramani Mahama has acknowledged the difficulty of fighting galamsey. He did not expect to win this battle in just four months.
Mahama emphasized that illegal mining is a complex issue. His government remains committed to addressing it. The Armed Forces and security services are ready for the challenge.
Speaking at the May Day celebration in Accra, he said, “I did not kid myself about winning this fight quickly.” He added that they will continue to succeed against those harming the environment.
He declared, “As far as the fight against galamsey is concerned, I say Aluta Continua.”
In other news, the Generational Rights Protection Society has postponed its protest planned for April 29. They had aimed to continue their demonstration against illegal mining.
After meeting with police, they agreed to suspend the protest for further discussions. The police requested more time to prepare for their engagement.
The group expressed gratitude for police cooperation during their protests. They acknowledged the challenges faced but accepted the request to postpone.
Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor criticized the decision to cancel the protest due to low attendance. He believes true commitment shows through persistence despite setbacks.
