I didn’t use Rock City Hotel as part of sureties for Wontumi – Bryan Acheampong

Former Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong clarified that he did not use Rock City Hotel as a surety for the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Wontumi.

Instead, he used some houses. He spoke to the media at EOCO and said, “We are going through the formalities. Everything should be fine. They just finished inspecting the properties. We need to check their value, and we are good to go.”

Acheampong added, “Some houses are normal; Rock City Hotel is not part. I am a normal person. God is good.”

In another development, Gary Nimako Marfo, the Director of Legal Affairs for the NPP, withdrew an application to change bail conditions for Bernard Antwi Boasiko (Chairman Wontumi).

The motion was filed on May 30 and scheduled for hearing on June 3. However, Wontumi's legal team withdrew it on June 2.

Wontumi’s lawyers had previously stated that despite meeting bail conditions, his release was delayed due to a new legal application filed earlier that day.

His lawyer explained that they encountered challenges preventing his release but hoped to resolve them soon.

Chairman Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the CID headquarters on May 27. He received bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties on May 28.

However, his legal team had not fully met all conditions required for his release at that time.

Additionally, Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai announced that Wontumi is under investigation for fraud and money laundering.

He also mentioned an investigation into an international organized crime scheme involving Wontumi.

Justice Srem-Sai noted that EOCO is working with international law enforcement partners in this case. Asset recovery efforts are underway to secure suspected proceeds of crime.
